Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

become a vet or a vet tech
You have to love it.

(As a vet tech) you will never make a lot of money. You will work really hard, have to deal with agressive pets and owners, and you’ll probably by unappriciated. BUT, if you love it, it’s worth all of it. I wouldn’t trade my job for anything.

get to know the mailman
Poor guys/girls.

They deliver the good word all day and more often then not only get complaints. Mine seems like a nice guy, I ought to get to know him.

Attend Evergreen State College
Too expensive

I just don’t have 20k a semester to drop on school. Especially I get paid to go to school in Florida.

Maybe for grad school…

die before I'm old
Untitled

I want to die young, so I can’t look back at my life and think ‘My god…. Where has the time gone?’

help
Untitled

Anyone, everyone… Mostly little furry animals. :)

become enlightened
Untitled

I think it’ll take me a few lifetimes, but I’m really looking forward to it.

Live in Spain
In Salamanca

I spent a month there studying, and it’s a really great city. I’d love to live there.. Maybe when I retire and just want to settle down somewhere far away. Or maybe for a year studying more. I don’t know.

get something published
I don't really have anything new to say.

And I’m not a great story teller, but with all the people getting shit published nowadays, I’m sure I’ll think of something.

Buy a House
Nothing special.

I want to move to North Dakota with my dog and my boyfriend and find a plain little house somewhere out there.

teach
Not kids.

Definately on a college-level. I don’t much care for kids. I’d want to teach history. Or philosophy. Or literature. Or humanities… A lot of things really.

Learn to brew beer
Family thing.

My family has been brewing beer since before I was born. They have this great picture of my capping bottles when I was three. It’s a lot of fun, and makes for a great conversation.

Get my PhD
In history or english...

And now I’m one tiny step closer. I went to my history class today AND took notes. They should just start calling me doctor right now.

create gmail account
Want an invite?

I have 49 to give away… I can be found at vapidly@gmail.com

sleep in a hammock
:)

It was a very zen moment.

pick up a hitchhiker
I've done it twice.

One was a homeless dude who had a long sob story, with a climax, and full three-demensional characters, the main one learning a lesson about life and how it isn’t fair. Anywhoo, we bought him a meal at Checkers, then drove him ot this overpass…

The others were these two guys my friend and I picked up. They were staranded at this club and didn’t want to wait three hours for a cab. They took us out to Denny’s and gave us their number. Stand up dudes.

get a parrot
Stupid Fuzzy.

I got a bird, he was grey, I named him Fuzzy. He hated me.

create a garden
Hurricane killed it.

When I was a kid I planted this little garden on the side of my house. I live in Florida, 25 feet from the damn water. Dig five inches and it’s sand, dig a foot and it’s water. I thought I was a freaking botanical genius. Of course, as soon as I grew one single beautiful tomato a hurricane blew in and killed it… I was crushed.

If you live in a better place that Florida, go ahead. I’m sure it’s very rewarding.

learn to ride a horse
Only childhood activity I kept up with.

I started riding in kindergarden. Unfortunately it’s hard to find a stable that’ll let you ride someone else’s horse. When my old stable moved far away, I was out of luck. I took lessons up until about 5th grade. I did the whole black velvet riding helmet, leather boots and crop scene. I now ride anywhere. Anyone who will let me near a horse, any chance I get. Even if it’s just a stupid trail ride.

I don’t know what quality in me makes me love horses and riding, but if it’s in you you’ll know the feeling I’m doing a terrible job of describing.

love and be loved
Long talks about Bosch and Eddie Izzard.

I don’t really gush about my baby, and I don’t know what I could say about love and being loved… I think I feel very content.

own a black lab
Best dogs ever!

Labs have such sparkling personalities. Some dogs are very bright, but tend to be stubborn or independent. Labs are extremely intelligent and love to please. I was raised with labs, and love them dearly.

This is a picture of my little pup, Sambuca. The light of my life.
