I had just turned on my computer when the RSS feed signalled a new loan had arrived in Rwanda; it was fully funded by the time I caught up with it. But using the most recent index on the lending page, I grabbed a loan in Rwanda and a loan in Cameroon before the RSS feeds updated themselves, which they have just done now as this is being typed.

How I did it: dig in! do some research to find opera productions in your community or as close to it as possible.ask family and friends to help, have any of them attended an opera? do you know anyone who can tell you a bit about operas or who might want to go along with you and share the experience. Read how I did it…
Kiva alerts worked once! I was too slow once before but I clicked on the loan literally within one minute of receiving the alert but 21,000 other kiva lenders were busy making at least one loan last week so loans can get funded very quickly. Another time it read this way: Loan=$250, already raised=$250.
My list of kiva countries:

Nepal, Cameroon and Rwanda posted new loans this month so these are countries I expect to lend in next. Afghanistan’s last new loans were available 1-July so that’s also a possibility to be #43!
Can’t tell easily when the last loan was available in Haiti because almost all of the partner’s loans are made in Dom. Rep. Iraq partner’s last 5 loans were listed 1 per month in April-August 2008 so that’s very unlikely. The partner in Bulgaria is presently paused so that status needs to change or a new partner is needed before that one gets done.
Set my kiva alerts for many countries which presently are not served by kiva’s present partners to advise as soon as loans in new countries become available.
Thanks to kiva alerts and the RSS feed on fundraising loans of the kiva partners in countries where I haven’t made loans, two new loan opportunities, in Bosnia and Palestine, were flagged which I was able to respond to just in time this morning.
This puts me on 40! We’ll see how fast the next 3 countries can find representation in my kiva loan portfolio.
