It has been a few days, and I’ve been progressing well so far. (As with all goals in the beginning—hopefully I can maintain interest.)
Currently I am learning from these sources:
-My French Coach on the Nintendo DS (Great game, very extensive)
-24/7 French 101 on the iPod Touch (Various quizzes on vocab)
-Coffeebreak French podcast (Seems very good so far, and free!)
So far I know:
-family members
-greetings
-one through one hundred
-colors
-weather and seasons
-the “etre” verb and various conjugations
-pronouns
-a few other misc things
I would like to get Rosetta Stone, but I want to make sure this is something I am going to stick to before I make the $400 investment. I would also like to take some college courses, as that would really accelerate my learning.
I am considering buying children’s books written in French, as I’ve heard that is a good way to learn. A lot of video games have French language options—that seems like it could help, as well.

I would really like to learn to speak and write French. My wife took several years of French and has been further learning/refining her knowledge with My French Coach DS (which she completed) and Rosetta Stone—so I intend to use those programs and perhaps buy some books on the subject.
We have very extensive travel ambitions, so I think it will come in handy at some point, and even if it doesn’t, I think it will enrich my life in some way just to know another language.

3.5 weeks later and I’ve gone up an eighth of an inch. With 4 arm work outs left, I do not expect to make it to 16”—I might be close if I measure myself while I have a good pump.
My training has not been lacking for intensity. I attribute the slow gains to losing 5 pounds of body weight, and perhaps an unrealistic time frame to complete this goal.
I read in Iron Man that in order to go up an inch on your arms, you need to gain 15 pounds of well distributed lean body mass. Hah!
