The problem with figure drawing is that there are darn few people who wouldn’t mind taking their clothes off and holding still for an hour while I draw them. I’m taking a class now and that helps, but the poses go so fast! And it sure is not the same as drawing from photos. Somehow I’ll find a way to do this.

I signed up at the local community college and started last Thursday. I found the speed of drawing to be incredible. I’m not displeased with the results, but I could have done better. It’s a lot harder translating a live model to paper than working from photographs.
Yeah, I’ve written half a dozen novels, though none have been published. But last year I discovered a great support for getting through a first draft: National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Every November there’s a few thousand people who sit down to write a novel (50,000 words) in 30 days. I did it last year and am pretty pleased with the results (www.willowmills.blogspot.com). I’ve already started jotting down notes so that when the flag drops November 1, I start writing. If you really want encouragement to get that first draft done, check out www.nanowrimo.org. Now for the tough part: getting it published.
