It has been just about a year since I got my braces on. My lower teeth are much straighter, my uppers are coming along, but the biggest difference? I can breathe through my nose clearly now! It’s as if I have had a sinus cold for 29 years and it finally cleared up. The satisfaction and joy of being able to breathe through my nose is worth the cost of the orthodontia all on it’s own!

How I did it: Permanent Ink, a great tattoo shop here in Halifax, does a promotion on Friday the 13th. Each Friday the 13th, you can get any small tat with a 13 for 13$. I sketched up a few ideas and settled on a pentacat with the number 13 behind it on my left wrist. I'm planning on adding a bracelet of the moon phases once I have time & cash. Read how I did it…
I’ve had the braces on since the spring, and already there are dramatic changes. I can breathe clearly through my nose for the first time in twenty seven years, and I no longer have the clunking in my jaw or the whooshing noises in my ears that I had before.
Hooray for orthodontics! Now I just have to tough it out and finish the process, then get them whitened.
I want to pay more attention to what goes on in the world around me. I want to notice and absorb the things that occur on a daily basis not only locally but globally, with attention to people’s reactions and interactions to each other.
