I came SO CLOSE on the Guardian quiptic this week. There were only 2 clues I didn’t get on my own.
If I’d thought about it a bit more I could perhaps have got
Small rivers making squeaking sounds (6) CREEKS
but I had no chance with
Developed so-called shudder in Scotland (4) GREW
because I didn’t know that the Scots have a word GRUE which means shudder. Still, I learned something and I’m getting better! And homophone clues are obviously my weakness.
I also managed half of a regular Telegraph cryptic the other day, go me. Still can’t ever do much of the regular Guardian one though(!)This is not a skill that is coming easily to me!
