How I did it: I started a flickr group, and invited everyone i knew- even if only vaguely (like my entire list of 'friends' on StumbleUpon!) to join. In the invite, i explained that the goal would be to take a photo a day for one year, and that quality wasn't the focus- just the actual act of picking up the camera and taking a photo.!4 other people from around the world committed to the project, and 9 of us managed to keep it up through the end, … Read how I did it…
i posted this as one of my 43 things because i had a digital camera (not a really good one, just an average joe camera) that i wanted to use more- and learn how to use, since i really didn’t know more than how to point it and push the button (and pray it would turn out!) i was the very basic of beginners!
so, finally- on my birthday this year, i started a group on Flickr.com. I invited everyone on my friends list (from another online community) to join me in taking “A Pic A Day” for one year.
the project’s in its 4th month, and there are 6 regulars and several who come and go as they are able. Our photo pool currently has 1,500 pics in it!
it’s been the most fun and inspiring thing i’ve done for years! i get outside more (i’ve become fascinated with taking pics of flowers and bugs. this means i got to the park more, or get out to take walks, or just putter around hunting in my garden, which i planted specifically so i’d have something to take pictures of! LOL! so now i’m GARDENING, as well!) and i literally see the entire world from another perspective- what it will look like in a photo. “Oh wow! THAT would make a GREAT shot!” this means i’m constantly NOTICING details and elements of the world around me that before i would have simply walked right past and missed. it’s made me a thousand times more observant.
another thing- i’ve become active in the Flickr community, and met many people with interests in—guess what? FLOWERS and BUGS! lol!!
cameras and photography. wonderful things!
I DID IT!! i didn’t think i had, and i didn’t REALIZE it, because i’ve just been using my treadmill as usual (though the last month i was away and didn’t use it at all)... but i’d started up again, TRYING to be religious about it (failing).. and i had STOPPED WEIGHING MYSELF.
Today, i got a reminder for the goal, got irritated that it doesn’t stop coming, and checked the scale to find that i’ve lost FIVE AND A HALF POUNDS!!! YEAY!!!! i’m SO PROUD OF MYSELF!!! :D
