Oh my gosh, then my life would be complete. I would exist in my own little sphere of radiant lexical joy, and everywhere I went people would say “Now THERE goes a person who owns a full set of the Oxford English Dictionary!” Their lives would be better just for having seen me.

Not that ya asked, but my birthday actually falls on the date that the Oxford English Dictionary was first published – isn’t that GLORIOUS?

Right next to the small display of Trojan artifacts, if you please. I could be, like, the crazy nerd who lived in the museum and lovingly dusted all the artifacts at night; they could pay me for my services in delicious ale and perhaps the occasional packet of Twiglets. Wouldn’t that be cozy and delightful?? The Phantom of the Opera’s got NOTHING on the Museum Dork!

No, I don’t have anybody specific in mind but it occurs to me that I’m not sure I’ve EVER really read someone the riot act and darn it, that seems like something everyone ought to stand up for themselves and do at least once in their life, don’t you think?
