I don’t like to exercise for the sake of exercising. I need to have some other goal in mind… so, I go hiking w/ friends every weekend. I go sailing, etc. I just keep a bunch of things outdoors queued up that I want to do and then I don’t have to exercise, I just show up to hang out w/ the friends who I’ve gotten into the habit of doing hiking stuff w/ and the exercise happens :-)

How I did it: I've stayed in generally good shape all my life. Last summer, when we decided to climb it, I got back into a regular exercise routine for the preceding couple months. Basically, I just made sure to run ~5 miles like 3 times a week for the couple months before. We did a 1-day up and down hike. The main thing on the mountain is just staying enthusiastic, drinking LOTS of water, and packing as light as you can. Read how I did it…
How I did it: The way I work, I have to have a reason to learn what ever I'm working. It doesn't matter if that reason's really valid. Anywho, I got a job doing linux admin stuff. I get lots of practice writing scripts at work. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Well, I bought an ex250 ninja; Just something to get me down the road. I gave it a little tune up, and it does it great. I didn't have to spend a lot of money. 2k got me a nearly brand new bike. Read how I did it…

I got to thinking about this. I’d love to take about 6 weeks off and ride up along the coast to Canada, then around to Alaska. I’d stop off at a bunch of national parks, try the food in lots of little towns, camp along the way and probably stay in a few hostels. Then, maybe I’d take a ferry over to Kodiak and then to Glacier Bay. It’ll be cool to spend some time in the two big cities of Alaska and check out the life up there.
This won’t happen during the summer of ‘08, but I may plan for ‘09. Need to get this done by the end of the world in 2012.
I put up a tentative map: Here
I did buy one finally, but it was left on a bus in Pisa, Italy this last summer, along with a bunch of cool photos :-(. Anywho, I’m going to ad another goal along the lines of draw more or do more art stuff.
