The South Beach Diet - Week 1

Week 1 was not too bad. I hated not having desserts. I did lose a few pounds so I am on to Week 2. My co-workers are also better then week. A couple are joining the diet so I am not alone fighting the boxes of chocolate.



Be responsible with money and learn about our finances
Not an expert, but doing well

It has been a long journey for me after getting a divorce and hitting what I concidered rock bottom with my finances. I hated dodging the creditor and crying every payday when I was broke.

It has been four years since a good friend put my sorry finances into Quicken and taught me to record everything I was spending. I am still not out of debt, but financially I am in a better position than ever.

We were able to pay for our wedding in cash this year, though the honeymoon and rings when onto a credit card. We are in a position to buy a second home to remodel and sell. We know when we are over budget and how to pay down the debt.

I recently read the Automatic Millionaire and implemented some of the advice. With most things automated, I categorize receipts and do not worry about the bills. They pay themselves. After this month, we will be down to three credit cards that do not have the balances paid off. (Note: I left college with roughly 15 store and credit cards.)

Day One

So Day One has been horrible. Breakfast was OK since the hotel had eggs. I added some cheese and a little salsa and was fine. I haven’t been to the store since I landed last night, so I have no snacks for the day. I found myself eating a Laughy Taffy before lunch. No more of that.

Lunch was just evil. My office order pizza in for a working lunch. I had some hot wings, rationalizing that at least it was not bread. The sugar for the sauce and the fat from the frying are bad though.

I drank plenty of water before the diet, so I am not missing the soda at all. I am heading to the store tonight to get some snacks and salads for lunch.

At least being on the road during the week means that I am not tempted to weigh myself constantly to prove there is progress. Any tips for eating out are appreciated.
