How I did it: We lived in the same vicinity for months without acknowledging each others' presence...I was always busy, he was never there. When his relationship ended, I was there to lend an ear when he needed to vent or talk about the endless emotional fallout and drama. In turn, when my life went straight to hell he was there for me. How I did it: This was my first year away from home for Thanksgiving, and I was invited to a friend's house and was able to spend it with him, his wife, and his wife's family. After the holidays, I sent a thank you card that said, "Anyone who says 'there's no place like home' obviously has never stayed with you!'
