How I did it: I signed up for the Women's Triathlon hosted by Methodist Hospital and the UNO Women's Swimming team. I asked friends if anybody wanted to do it with me, and my very good friend volunteered.I kept to my normal training with cycling and running. I could have made efforts to swim more as well, but I did not due to other obligations. My friend and I arrived just in time for the informational talk at the beginning, picked up our packets, and c… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I was going to Colorado for a scientific conference for work. Last year, I attended the same conference and tried desperately to go white water rafting, but it was not going to work out. This time, I arrived on Sunday, looked at some brochures, found a trip that worked with the morning we had off from lectures, signed up online, and went when the day arrived.I was staying in Snowmass Village, CO, not far from Aspen or Glenwood… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I took my regular running schedule and adapted to run a marathon for the race date. I used guides by Hal Higdon and Runnersworld and a couple other running websites to put together a running training schedule and I tried to keep my strength training, cross-training, and yoga as normal.I picked up my race packet the night before and attended the free pasta-thon dinner. I stayed at a friend's house because it was in a different … Read how I did it…

I’ve spent some time over the past couple weeks updating my CV.
I’ve sent it to the professor from the conference. I need to send it to a couple groups I am interested in working with.
And I need to keep writing so that procuring a post-doc is not getting ahead of myself.
For 17 days Sept 30 and Oct 16, I ran 37.11 miles. Again, this puts me at a lower than I’d like weekly average of 15.28 miles. These miles include 5 runs with my running buddy, a few of these long runs while she prepares for her fall half-marathon, overlapping with 5 runs with my dogs, and a single run on the treadmill.
I have been having troubles keeping my running motivation up. Two other high priorities in my life (writing my dissertation and prepping my house) mixed in with the normal time requirements of teaching and being a mom are taking a toll on my energy levels and motivation to set aside time for “me” things. I need a spring event to train for to keep me on track, however, I have no idea when I could actually do one of these big spring events and I don’t really know if I truly have time to train. I just need to do my 4 x weekly runs, 2 short, 1 medium, 1 long. With the weather getting colder quite quickly (we’ve already had snow), I don’t know how long my running buddy will still be outdoor running. This will make my lack of motivation even more difficult to overcome.
Oh well, slowly getting this goal accomplished. At least I have passed the 600 miles mark.
The photo is another one from the Bismarck Marathon back in September. It was a really pretty run and a very flat course with less than 1500 participants in all 3 offered distances. I highly recommend that event.
