since i took two years of french in high school, i can make incredibly boring conversation in the language (all of the tourist talk, where is the bathroom, my name is anne, i am american, let’s go to the pool and so on ad nauseum), but nothing that anyone would stick around to listen to. i’d like to get to the point where i can have an interesting, intelligent conversation with a native french speaker in their own language.

i went to new york about three years ago, when i was seventeen. i believe that it’s somewhat overrated, but i liked it just the same. it feels very familiar (no small wonder, what with all the movies and books that take place there), and almost mythological, in a sense.
