be an exchange student (read all 2 entries…)
austria 3 years ago

I fly home in 15 days after having spent 11 months abroad in Austria. This has been the best year of my life. I have learned a new language, made friends from across the globe, visited 16 countries, met some of the most amazing people I think I will ever find in this world, been sick from loneliness, discovered what it is to be independent, and realized that it’s okay to be happy. Almost a year ago I typed an entry here saying I was about to leave, but it seems like yesterday. In a way I don’t think I can ever really go home again, because home is in every place and person I have met. I’m jealous of everyone who has their exchange year still in front of them, but I know it’s time for me to leave, get back home, and see the people I love.

solve a rubiks cube in less than a minute
Maybe I'm just a huge nerd. 3 years ago

I picked up my Rubik’s cube two or three years ago at a summer camp for teenagers at the U of O, but didn’t learn to solve it until later. I’ve done it for talent shows, had a few cube-offs, gone through three cubes so far (stickers peeling off, speed-cubing and cube snaps apart, etc.) but I just can’t get my time under 30 seconds. So far, 40 is my best.

Let it also be known I can solve a 2×2x2 in under 25 seconds, and a 4×4x4 in under five minutes, with the best circumstances (still working on that one).

drink absinthe
Untitled 3 years ago

I drank this in Prague and yes, it’s quite unique as far as drinks go. It looks like greenish-blue Clorox, has an undescribable odor, and tastes like a shitload of alcohol flavored slightly peppermint, slightly liquorice. It’s illegal to sell the kind rife with hallucinogenics anymore, but all you’ve got to do is light a teaspoonful of sugar on fire, pour it in, and there you go… (I haven’t tried this yet, though.)

I agree with one of the previous posters when they said that though their body felt buzzed, their mind stayed clear—it had the same effect on me. Hell, I’m going back to Prague in May and I might as well have it again ;).
