legally change the spelling of my name
Right Now, Legally, I'm Eric 3 months ago

I’ve been spelling my name Aeryk, instead of Eric, for many years now. For the most part I don’t have any problems with it. Even the banks don’t flinch when I write that on my slips.

I don’t remember where I first saw it, but I know that my desire to change my name has come from my propensity for the dramatic (the creative in me) and from the fact I’ve been on my own since I was 18 (mother left when I was 12, father died a couple months after my 18th birthday). The change in the spelling seems to make sense to me because I’ve make/defined who I am now, and as an extension of that, I’d like to decide how my name is spelled.

I have a friend from college who is an attorney, who said she would help me with this. Now all I have to do is save up the scratch.

Get Out of Their House
I Learned the Hard Way 3 months ago

My girlfriend and I moved into her parents house after Ike messed up the house where we were living. At the same time her father was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. The move was supposed to be a way that we could help one another out.

It has turned out to be a COMPLETELY different shituation from the one we started.

The part that makes getting a place hard isn’t that we haven’t the money, cause we do. The problem is 1.) we would like to own the place we move into (it’s about time for us to do that) and 2.) we have 4 dogs, two of which are giants (a Great Dane and an English Mastiff).

Right now we’re looking at our possibilities into purchasing a home. Our credit is horrible, so I’m nervous about that. I’m holding out hope though because right now is a buyer’s market, or so some say.

Regardless, we have a goal date of May 1 to be moved out. So, for better or less better, that’s when I have to be out, for my sanity’s sake.

Own a Specialized Centrum (formally a Kona Smoke) (read all 2 entries…)
This One's Not Gonna Work Out 7 months ago

It’s not that I can’t do it, it’s that a different bike called me when I went to put my down payment on my bike.

My new bike is a Specialized Centrum (pictured above). It’s a fixed gear bike (like a bmx, i.e. one speed). It’s got a really comfortable seat and is light. It also has these really cool disc brakes, which break REALLY well. It’s been a long time since I’ve purchased a bike, and this is just too damned cool. It could have been a problem, as I refused the bike helmet. I was just going to ride up to the stop sign and back (less than a block). No problem, except when you’re not used to the disk brakes, and you squeeze them too hard. I damn near went over the handle bars.

Best part, it was only $5 more than the Kona, which didn’t mess up my budget.

So, the first step is done, now, within a month (fingers crossed) I will have that puppy and be back in the saddle.
