that the absolute ideal work would be in creating kids books…...I have a couple of based around my teaching experience. The first being the result of a situation that ran like this in my very first year of teaching…. it was a year 3 /4 multi age class so the kids were supposed to be 8 and 9, though some were still 7 and others had just turned 10….
The bell rang…..
they lined up (one of those rare classes that actually lined up…. the only class I ever had that managed it).
They came in
They sat down
They started work….
A little late S ran to the door, his face read and a little out of breath from running…
‘Sorry I am late Miss….’
‘That’s fine, take a seat’
For once the class was quiet… not a sound, not a murmur…I went to teacher heaven.
S gave a wriggle….. he fidgeted, he kicked his shoe….
he stood up…
‘Miss, I have something in my shoe can I go outside and get rid of it?’
‘Yes’
A minute later there was this red face at the window next to my desk with a grin that the Cheshire cat would be proud of….. he gave a giggle….
‘It was a frog’ he said with the most incredible pride.
‘A frog????‘
‘Oh yes’...... so very pleased with himself, kinda like when the cat brings in a mouse and wants you to be all happy about it.
......’and it was inside my sock’........
‘ummmmm…...’
I sit here 10 or so years later, thinking what would have happened if that frog hadn’t met such an unfortunate end, and had escaped from S’s shoe… I can imagine it causing a riot in the classroom….
I am not sure…. I might just have a go at it, but I don’t want it to be added to one of my infinite piles of ‘unfinished’ things.
