I returned home from a four-week stay at a fitness/wellness camp last weekend, and while I was there, I really got into much better shape.
When I first arrived, we were required to run a mile as fast as we could (my time was over 17 minutes… ouch), do as many push ups as we could (I did 24, kneeling on a bench haha), and hold a plank position for as long as possible (I managed to hold it for over a minute).
Throughout the month I was there, we learned healthy eating habits, how to cook healthily, how to shop correctly, ways to exercise, ways to stretch, and we were required to walk three miles each day before breakfast. We also had cognitive behavior therapy in groups, to understand the emotional/pyschological aspects of eating. Aside from all that, we also had six “class periods” per day, and each one had a different activity, including yoga/pilates, mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, basketball, tennis, floor hockey, dodgeball, zumba, step aerobics, water aerobics, lap swims, kickboxing, etc. Tons of stuff to do.
Personally, I love hiking and mountain biking. So much, that I bought a mountain bike the day after I got home. I’ve had it for two days now, and the cateye I bought to count my miles and keep track of my speeds tells me I’ve already ridden it 19 miles. I love it.
anyway before we left camp, we had to repeat all of the same fitness tests, and I improved my time on the mile by four minutes, doubled the time I can hold myself in a plank position, and increased my number of push ups by 2, but moved from doing them on a bench to actually doing them on the ground, but still on my knees.
Yes, I am still overweight, but now instead of sitting around doing nothing, I want to get out and do things. I want to go hiking and camping and mountain biking and kayaking. I want to play softball and basketball and tennis. I want to keep moving, and continue eating healthily like I learned at camp.
I’ve been home for three days now, and I bought a scale and I know I’ve lost weight since I’ve returned.
I feel excellent and I sincerely hope I can keep this up because I have never been more proud of myself for getting something done.
I just randomly came back to my 43 things account, and saw this goal on the bottom of my list. I had forgotten about my struggle with this, but now that I think about it, I can’t even remember the last time I picked my lips! My last entry about this was three months ago, but its not even a problem for me now! I have been so busy with other stuff, I haven’t had the excess time to stress and pick my lips hahah. Hopefully I can keep this up.
I am pleased.
