i’d like to make the Nordic area the rest of my life’s work. become fluent in most of the Nordic languages, live and research in Sweden. ready to move beyond my American life – it has gone as far as it can possibly go. question is, where to start? who to talk to???

i already speak German, and when i pick up a Dutch newspaper, i find i can figure out what’s going on about 25% of the time… but now, or in the intermediate future, i’d like to learn to speak Dutch.
can anyone recommend (or not) Antwerpen as a place to study Dutch? if so, then at what school specifically? i’ve considered Antwerpen for a reason, but i’d rather explain some other time…
thanks!
if i get this far, i can spend a summer at an intensive course in the Faroes. the ultimate goal, at least with the Nordic/Scandinavian Languages, is to make a career change into being a Nordic scholar and researcher. i also have ambitions to study a ever widening range of languages and language families, since i’m good at languages and being a linguist is where i originally started my life after university…
