I took a beginner’s continuing education Russian language course at Rice University. I didn’t take another semester because I decided to take an art class. I think I need to be more determined.

How I did it: Well, at my new job, the receptionist - who is also an opera singer - told me that I should sign up for classes at Alvin Ailey. I narrowed it down to a samba class and it was the most fun I've had in a dance class in a long, long time. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I had applied about 4 months prior, but due to my own commitments and the fact that I was living across the country, it didn't work out until now. I emailed them once or twice before moving to let them know that I was still interested and asked if they would keep me in mind for future positions. When I moved, they emailed me and I went to interview. I was hired, for a different job, but it's still within the UX team. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I made the commitment to get out and do what I liked. To see whatever my new city had to offer. Unfortunately, I was often alone. This lasted for a long time. (Including going out on dates with people, just for the sake of being in the company of other people.) Finally, all my efforts paid off and I met some friendly faces and kindred spirits. I think that I could have done better though; but, I'm kind of quiet. Read how I did it…

So, I applied to a 2-year Master’s program at NYU for this fall. I got accepted, but NYU is horribly expensive and they didn’t offer any money in grants or scholarships. Tuition is $42,000/year. Although it’s a very unique program, I do not feel that I accept their offer. If I had to pay for both years in loans, I would be over $100K in debt. I am forced to believe that NYU is simply not the school for me. :(
This book is called The Angel of Grozny, by Asne Seierstad. It’s about the children of the war(s) in Chechnya. I don’t know much about the conflicts in Eastern Europe, but I’m hoping this book with help.
