Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

eat a minimum of three vegetables and two fruits per day
One of the 8HGs

I’m doing it!!!! Yayy!!! I would say at least five days a week now I am consistantly eating my fruits and veggies in one form or another. It isn’t that hard once you just start doing it!

eat less sugar

I’m finally doing this!

I basically set aside Friday as my “cheat day” when I’m craving some sugary snack, I tell myself I’ll have it on Friday.

Throughout the week, I might crave something different everyday…but come Friday, I only end up eating one of those things so that has made a huge difference in the amount of sugar I am consuming!

I am pretty much not eating any sugar during the rest of the week other than natural sugars in fruits and veggies.

It took awhile, but I finally started tackling this goal! Woot Woot!!

pay off my student loan (read all 2 entries…)
3 Down, 1 to go!

I have now paid off the third loan. I can’t believe it. I thought I would never get through these things!!!

This last one is going to take me awhile, but I am ahead on my payments for the first time ever.

I used to feel like I was going to drown in all this debt; now it finally feels manageable. What a relief.

Praise Jesus!!

Give 1000 cheers
Almost there...

only 53 cheers left to go!!

Paying down the dreaded Student Loans...

I am doing really well with this. Out of four student loans, I have completely paid off two of them. The third loan should be paid off by the end of the year. The last one will probably take me a couple more years, but I am pleased with the progress. Things are finally starting to look up financially. :-)

get a new apartment
Yayyy! I found one!

I just moved to a great new apartment in Salem, MA. I am so excited because I just love it! It is right downtown in the historic district so it is very cool. The house was built in the mid 1600’s!

I can walk everywhere too which makes it super convenient. The grocery store, library, restaurants etc.. are all within walking distance. Plus it is a two minute walk to the train station so getting to Boston is a snap. Hopefully this will inspire me to use my car less.

It is also a very quiet building, which is great. I know what it is like to be woken up night after night by screaming, fighting neighbors so I REALLY appreciate the quiet.

All in all this new place is really working out for me and it was well worth the wait.

Writing More

Truth be told, I needed a little motivation to get me to actually start writing more. I have found a cool website called trion which I have begun to publish a few of my morning poems on. None of them are especially good, but at least I feel like I am doing something instead of nothing. I have decided to try to submit at least one poem or article a day no matter how bad I think it is. This is because I know I will never improve if I don’t practice. With this site you have the potential to earn a little money by publishing with them as opposed to just ranting in a blog so I thought that might motivate me to be a little more consistent in my writing. If you want to check out my latest poem or the site go to Anyway, I have found having a place to consistently write has helped me to write more. Hopefully all you budding writers out there will find sufficient motivation too. Good Luck!

give 500 cheers

Yayyy!!! I did it! ‘tis more blessed to give than to receive! :) Now I shall strive to give even more cheers!!!

be more positive
In His presence is the fullness of Joy!

I have decided to go on a three day complaint fast…meaning I will make every effort not to complain at allabout anything for three full days. I want to get into the habit of never complaining. So far, I have found that not complaining really does help you to be more positive. We really do poison ourselves with negetive speech.

Make a list of 43 things I know very little about, & then learn at least 3 things about each of them
I'm too lazy :)

I realized that I’d rather spend my time working on my other goals.

Read more books

Not having cable has really helped with this goal…there is no temptation to vedge in front of the TV every night. I’ve read about a book a week for a couple of months now. I think I am almost ready to mark this goal as completed!

Grow in Christ
Do the things you know to do...

I know that if I want to grow in Christ I need to commit to a few things.

1. I must continue regular attendance of church and church activities. The bible is clear that we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves together and I know He has set leadership over us for a reason. I cannot allow myself to miss a church service simply because I do not feel like going.

2. I absolutely must make reading, studying and memorizing scripture a priority in my life. This is an area where I could use improvement. I used to devour the Word, I just couldn’t get enough of it. Lately, I have really been slacking… I am not disciplined enough with my bible reading.

3. I have to commit to deeper prayer. To know God, you must be in communication with Him. There is not a day that goes by where I don’t pray. Yet, If I am honest I have to admit that there are many days where my prayer is very “surface”. I need breakthrough prayer to be the rule and not the exception.

4. It is time to start fasting regularly. If I want to be open to God’s leading and open to Christian growth, I need to weaken the flesh and strengthen the spirit. Fasting seems to be one of the best ways to do that.

5. I need to minimize ungodly influences from the outside world. By this I mean consuming less television, secular music, movies, videogames, even internet. The bible says we are in the world, not of the world.

6. I need to live more Christlike. One sure way to get to know Him better is to model myself after Him more. I need to give like He gives and love like He loves.

7. I must never never forget what He has done for me. I must always come to Him with praise and thanksgiving in my heart and above all else I must seek Him first!

well, I finally dusted off the old notebook and poured out a few miserable pages. It’s a start.

teach English abroad
Teaching English Abroad

Well, The things I have going for me in accomplishing this are:

1. I love to teach.
2. I love experiencing new places, things, cultures etc…
3. I have some experience teaching by way of the tutoring I did in highschool and college.
4. I have earned several ECE credits.
5. I am one of only a handful of certified trainers nationwide for my job.
6. I have had extensive training in working with people, communication and dealing with differences.
7. I have had the opportunity to visit places in which English was not the native tongue (Mexico & Puerto Rico).
8. I have experienced living with people from other cultures for extended periods of time (puerto rican, chinese, kenyan) and have adapted easily, dispite not understanding the languages I often heard spoken around me.

The things I have going against me are:

1. I am not TEFL or TESOL certified.
2. I only have an associates degree, not a bachelors

I have found that the quality of programs and companies hiring teachers varies widely. I will need to do a lot of research before selecting which company I would like to go with.

TEFL/TESOL certification really isn’t necessary, but could help my chances of being hired. The major roadblock I see is that I don’t have a Bachelor’s degree. With the exception of volunteer programs, every company I have looked at requires a B.A. This is a little disappointing because I fit all the requirements they are looking for in a candidate, but lack this one thing. However, I know it is realistic and frankly would be a little concerned if a Bachelors wasn’t required. Afterall, if you are going to teach, you should be educated!

It’s time to get back in school…

Ride a rollercoaster 10 times straight

I thought this was a great idea…and it was until about the ninth time around. Then, suddenly it wasn’t so great. I swear the room spun for three days afterwards!

Quit Smoking
'With God all things are possible'

Quitting smoking is…

1. rediculously hard

2. completely worth it!

All the Glory and praise for this accomplishment belongs to God!

Donate blood
Every 2 seconds someone in the United States needs blood...

If your like me and you want to help people, but you don’t have a lot of money to donate…Donate your blood!!! Did you know that one pint of blood can be used to save up to three lives?!? Isn’t that worth an hour of your time? Please contact your local Red Cross at 1-800-GIVELIFE to find a blood drive near you. Don’t let this be one of those things you always tell yourself you’ll get around to doing and never actually do. You have the power to do some real good, critically needed good for someone. Go out and do it.

read the whole Bible
His Word!

There is no way you can read the whole Bible and not get a blessing from it! I recommend this to everyone!

go to church regularly
Going to Church Regularly

I have found the key to regular church attendance is to first make up you mind about it. It sounds simple, but I mean really commit to it. You need to tell yourself that no matter how you feel, no matter what the weather, no matter how bad the circumstance, ‘I am going to church!’ You see, if you let yourself off the hook because you don’t feel well, then every week when you should be heading off to church, you are going to find that you don’t feel well. The devil uses what works. If you make up your mind to be there no matter what, then the devil will quit using that tactic, because it doesn’t work. Before long you will find that it isn’t as hard to be consistant in your attendance as it used to be. I promise the more you do it, the easier and more rewarding it is!!!
