HELLLLLLL YEAH!! NHS was hosting a blood drive at my school and I was pumped about it ever since I turned 17 last week. I was pretty nervous and jittery thinking about the scary stories about donating blooooood! but I had an AWESOME experience. My male nurse had a steamy Latin accent and he was very kind. I’ve heard a lot about nurses digging into people’s arms with a needle, or people passing out, or people’s artery/vein or whatever exploding and blood all over the place, but not true…70% of the time? Well, I made sure I ate and drank enough before AND after (I ate 2 string cheeses, Goldfish, a granola bar, PB&J, a cookie, hoagie, drank at least 32 ounces of Gatorade and some coffee)... Pain? Not as bad as people describe it. It was just a 10 second sting for me. :) Afterwards, I strolled back to class and there’s only a little bruise left. Saving lives is sexy.
