After a most amazing visit to see my friend in Hawaii, I have decided to make the drastic change of uprooting myself from Texas and replant my life in Oahu. I have considered most everything while coming to this decision, and I honestly think it is a feasible goal which I should pursue. The game plan consists of working my butt off for the next 5 months or so, selling everything I own, with the exception of most my clothes, including my car, and packing 2 or 3 suitcases then flying out. These are just the vague details but I think it’s possible. If I save 3k from working, sell my car for 4k, sell all my furniture etc for about 1.5k, then I think I will be in ok shape. A plane ticket is like $500-$600 so that’s not a big deal. I’m going to make some calls and see if I can transfer from my job here to one of the locations in Oahu. That would take a lot of stress off of searching for a job. I plan to use craigslist to find a room for rent somewhere near Kaneohe, and also find a cheap car to get me around the island. I know the cost of living is higher in Hawaii but I think that is the trade off for living in a tropical paradise. What is making me have second thoughts the most is what if I can’t transfer and am unable to find a job? I’d pretty much do anything for work, but I do still have student loan bills and credit card bills to pay. I know I should pay that off before I go, but my student loans are going to take 20 years to pay off or more. I have a friend that says he will do it with me, and move to Hawaii, but I’m not going to let my dream be interfered with when he decides to change his mind. I just don’t know how to go about selling all my things. Should I start now if I want to move in August or should I wait until August when people are moving back into town and need furniture? Wouldn’t that be cutting it close? Is it too early now to sell my Tv, couch, bed etc? I think it is… but I dont know. Any help would be appreciated I suppose. Most people I tell this to think I’m crazy and aren’t very helpful, so I really need someone to tell me I’m not stupid for wanting change.

How I did it: I visited O'ahu in March '09 and completely fell in love with it. On my 9 hour flight home I attempted to come up with a game plan to make the move. I finally came up with a fairly reasonable idea of how much things were going to cost once I got here. Luckily I was able to transfer my job to Waikiki. That was pretty much the thing that made me decide to go through with it actually. I have heard a lot of people had a hard time finding work… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I have seen Ben Gibbard/ DCFC play 3 times and on the 3rd time I got to meet Ben. I waited outside with a hand full of other people after the show. As time passed the crowd dwindled, and our hopes were almost lost. Someone said he wasn't coming out but finally after 2 hours he emerged from his tour bus and was greeted by about 5 of us who had been dedicated enough to wait. He was very approachable and obliging. He took pictures with every… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I had been feeling bad about my appearance, because over the course of 4 years I had gained about 30 lbs, and hated the way my body moved and felt. I felt gross. I came to college weighing 110 and had exploded to a whopping 140 on some days. Now I know this doesn't seem like a big deal, but I have a small frame and that's nearly 1/4 of my body weight. I honestly wasn't trying very hard to lose weight until my boyfriend broke up with me. I… Read how I did it…
