I don’t know if there’s any advice to give, other than apply. I did the pre-college program in 2002 (I’m starting to feel old), and it’s still one of my happiest memories. I’m a Barnard alumna, but there was nothing like having that time in NYC to take a couple laid back classes and have fun exploring the city.
