I live in New York and rarely see a shooting star. However I have spent a total of 7 weeks in Michigan and have seen more there than I have ever seen in 19 years in NY.

I hate having to read all the material with the restrictions about
giving blood. I hate all the spinach I have to eat the week before I
donate so that my iron is high enough. I hate when my finger
gets pricked and I hate the anticipation of waiting for the needle
to be stuck into my vein. I hate the bright neon bandage that is
wrapped around my arm after donating.
I hate going to the canteen and being tempted by the cookies on
the table. I hate the stickers the canteen volunteers want me to
wear announcing that I am a special for giving blood. I hate
people thinking I am special.
But what I hate most of all is the image of parents holding a
vigil by the bedside of a sick or injured child. I hate the thought
of those parents not recording their child’s first smile, first word,
first tooth and first steps in their baby book. I hate the thought of
those parents possibly never hearing their child laugh or seeing
their child at play. I hate the thought of those parents never
having their child cuddle into their laps for a bedtime story. I hate
the thought of those parents not trick or treating with their child. I
hate the thought of those parents not bursting with pride as their
child marches to Pomp and Circumstance. I hate the thought of
those parents never feeling as incredibly blessed as I do when I
hear my daughters laugh.
Why do I donate blood? Because I would hate myself if I didn’t
I read my Bible every night and finished it in a little less than a year. It’s an amazing challenge and very rewarding.
