I finally did it! I’ve wanted to do it for years, but put it off because it was hyper-trendy and I couldn’t be sure that I really wanted it for myself. I was scared that it would really hurt or that I would bleed like a stuck pig, but it only felt like someone pinched me really hard with long fingernails, and I didn’t bleed at all, not a drop! I think it has a lot to do with your piercer’s experience – mine was very fast and after the first poke, I honestly didn’t feel a thing.
I’ve read lots of horror stories about navel piercings getting infected easily and taking forever to heal, but mine was slightly pink for about an hour (no swelling!) and a day later, it looks like it’s been healed for months. I spray a saline solution on it twice a day and leave it alone otherwise. I’m thrilled that I finally got it done, but I’m glad I waited until I was sure.
I managed to whip him into spinelessness. That’s not what I wanted!! Plus, what I thought was rebelliousness turned out to be immaturity and laziness in a big way. I’m now dating a totally preppy grad school student, and I love the way he stands up for himself. We’re equals, and I couldn’t ask for more.
