I read a post on this blog and I think something needs to be cleared up about lust for all the Christians out there-

you need to know that to lust is wrong. when you look at a girl and purposefully indulge impure thoughts or the lust in your heart then you are committing a “gravely” immoral act (this is considered a mortal sin in most cases). Jesus Christ said it very clearly that looking at a person and lusting after them is no different then committing adultery. But remember it is only gravely immoral if you purposefully do it or indulge, in other words give ground to a gravely immoral temptation. Their is absolutely no sin done in being tempted. if you give in or simply not immediately reject and fight off the temptation then it becomes mortal sin, lust is always a mortal sin when you allow it to happen.

You should regard lust with hate and repulsion; why would you treat vice softly, when it is the enemy of your soul, salvation, sanctification, and of God’s glory?

Always remember the seven vices you should fight ceaselessly with determination, zeal, completely distrust, repulsion, and hatred. You simply CANNOT love God and not hate sin and vice with all your heart and soul. It is the same for all people who love God and His Truth, if you truly love humanity and care about people you would hate sin and vice just as much, because sin and vice is what threatens humanity and has the power to destroy forever.

all of you are in my prayers, but know that if you do not hate and sorrow over your (and all) sins and vices you will receive the grace of God in vain. I tell you this because I love you all sincerely and deeply, because my Lord loves and wants to be with you in glory, and because I wish to be with each of you with our Lord and all the angels and saints in glory forever. Humanity is a community, their is only one Church, one body and one spirit in Christ, and I do not wish to lose not even the worst sinner among you forever (nor does God, the angels or the saints). I was a horrific sinner, and still am a culpable sinner. but I promise that there is a good chance that until you hate and dread a sin with the deepest and most honest corners of your heart God will not command the angels to free you from that sin. you must recognize with all of your mind and being that you are a slave to sin who cannot free himself. how can you honestly pray to God with dread and urgency to free you from masturbation when you like doing it and want to do it?? No, you cannot. those that do not sincerely learn to hate the enemies of the human soul cannot properly call themselves a practicing christian. if your hate is not strong or complete do not fear!!! you can learn to hate evil by meditating and praying on it. make a list of why masturbation is evil, why you wish to stop, and all other things that point out the evil and illusion of this vice. you already know it is evil!! So convince yourself of it!!!!
You should be able to say with your heart this quote:
“My love for the Good is the source of my strength. When I see something I firmly love, a dear soul or a solid belief being threatened my love produces strength and the grace of God comes into action. when i see an evil I firmly hate my love for the Good responses in anguish and the grace of God comes into action.”

know that being motivated by love makes all trials much easier to accept and even enjoy for acts of love, when great enough, finds pleasure in sacrifices. love finds pleasure in giving and living in love for the sake of love. “God is love.” a person who is stingy in their sacrifices, trials, works, and prayers is a person who is deficit in love, faith and trust, but mostly deficit in Love.

1.) Conversion and Confession- (if you are catholic) RUN to confession immediately, keep with you the cell number of a priest, it is the job of the priest to give you confession ANY time of the day if he is not doing something important. salvation comes before beauty sleep. Most importantly this give you a confident that you can rely on. you know that you have to face the priest immediately after you masturbate, you have to confess you are sorry, again you have to promise by the grace of God you will NEVER sin, and again you will have to make amends for your sins. Remember that every time you sin you hurt the entire body of Christ, you send more evil into the world, and some holy person you do not know will have to make up for your failures with their holy prayer and penance

2.) Avoid temptations. you ever heard the gospel passage where Jesus says it is better to cut your hand off than to damn your entire body and soul to hell for your hand. He used the body symbolically to the passions of the heart. Think of it this way: it is better to never use the T.V. if you can not handle the temptation after you turn it on. It is better not to have internet if you cannot handle the temptation of porn after you get on the computer. It is better to look away from girls (or guys) if you cannot see their body and think of them with dignity. If you really want to do the right thing than do your part in avoiding the wrong. live like a humble, sober realist. do not let yourself fall into temptations confused or drugged by your own sensuality. if you were going to a competition of mind OR body would you binge food before you go, would you go drunk or without sleep, would you sleep non-stop or lay on the couch for 3 days before you go? No. you would not do any of those things. instead you would go as fit and as healthy as possible, you want to put yourself in the best situation that can guarantee you victory.

3.) Flight or Fight. when you are under temptation to do anything immoral you have to options: run from the temptation or fight the temptation. You have to know your limit, how much temptation you can suffer before giving in. you have to use flight with prudence and patience. and remember that you do not have to run away physically to get away from temptations, all that you have to do is turn your heart, mind, and soul to something else, something higher, your goal and purpose in life, preferably to God or the Blessed Virgin Mary and petition for help. Think of someone you would never masturbate to or in front of like your mother or a man who is morally upright and good. Live and act as if all the people you admire and honor were in your presence. If you are catholic you should know that you are apart of the Body of Christ and that you are one with all the saints in Heaven, catholic on earth, and souls in purgatory. Rejoice, you are in the company of victorious angels and saints!!! they are always with you!!! When you are tempted meditate on the Sacred Heart of Jesus, His five most sacred wounds and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Trust in God’s grace. (if you are catholic, we believe you are saved by Grace not by faith or love-although these things are very important) you ARE weak, do not trust in yourself but the grace of God working in you. remember that God gives super abundant grace to those who turn to Him always. remember that as a catholic you are called to pray perpetually, with everything that you do, always, and with all your heart. offer every good and honest work as a form of prayer.

4.) The Deep Hatred of Sin. all temptations, big or small, are in some level a deception. It appears to be something attractive, something good but when in fact it is only the vail over your eyes. you have to see past the temptation. in other words you have to reveal it for what it truly is, an evil you wish to separate yourself from, a sickness, and something that will lead you to death. think back at every time you masturbated and analysis the situation. let it sink in that what you did is deeply sick and repulsive. when you are under temptation your best friend is reason and faith. they will help you reveal the reality of any evil temptation, that it in fact is not attractive but repulsive. NEVER follow what you feel like doing but what your Reason and Faith tells you what is right and wrong. ex: Charity might feel good to you, but you should do it because it is the right thing to do, whether or not it feels good today or tomorrow or one hour from now. (*Remember that you never start back on square one- if you recently masturbate you should meditate on the evil of it, so that you can grow in hatred of masturbation- also practice penance (self-punishment), do something that shows how sorry you are and how much it truly hurts you, the Body of Christ, and God.)

5.) HUMBLE, DEVOUT, AND PERPETUAL PRAYER- remember that God would never want you to sin, and that temptation is an opportunity to practice virtue, particularly humility and devotion. if you are being harassed by temptation night and day than maybe God is letting your flesh, the devil and the world harass you so that you may turn to God always in PERPETUAL prayer. like a passionate lover, God wants to be able to share Love with you always, He always wishes to give Himself to you and He wishes always to recieve you totally, heart, mind, body and soul. God is madly in love with you and wishes to have you all for Himself like He will eventually in Heaven. To save you all He need to do is Incarnate His Son, but because He wished to show you just how much He loved you, How much He waits patiently for your conversion, how much He thirst to have you, and how much pain your sin causes Him, God choose to put all the agonies and sins man has caused in the Human Heart of His Divine Son and let Him suffer the death, humiliation, betrayal, and abandonment of a common sinner. God, the creator of the angels, made Himself into a fool to tell you He still loves you, and waits for you, and thirst for you, and wants to offer you all of His bliss and glory together with Him forever. All He asks “Do you love me?” – love is shown by what you do not what you say. . .

My name is anthony, ‘am a 17 year old Roman Catholic. I been on the “how to stop masterbating” goal (notice the goals are spelt different). I renewed my faith at the middle of June 2008 and I overcame masturbation in less than a month, i have not masturbated for 6 months and I never plan to!! i do not want to say that i have completely stopped masturbating, i still get tempted and to say that would be like saying my flesh, the world, and the devil, have absolutely no power over me. I came to cheer you guys on, give u advice, and pray for you!!!
