How I did it: A lot of things besides my own efforts were at work for this one but I definitely helped by keeping a positive outlook and making sure I covered all bases in terms of meeting new, interesting people. Read how I did it…
How I did it: 1) Take the #6 train to Brooklyn Bridge (Last stop in Manhattan)2) Exit the subway station, cross the street and start walking on the walkway above the traffic level of the Brooklyn Bridge Read how I did it…
How I did it: 1) Researched online for what is out in the market2) Consulted techie husband on what he recommended buying3) Made up my list of what I need from the laptop (mid sized screen, low weight, non-awkward keyboard, webcam, good processor, price $500-$800, etc)4) Shortlisted candidates based on online research5) Visited a store to test all the probables (J&R in downtown Manhattan has great selections)6) Re… Read how I did it…

Explore
- Know what you are putting in your mouth. Read the labels.
- At the grocery store, look at the ethnic food aisles (Plantain chips from Latin America, yum!)
- Google a recipe. Do you know how many ways a potato can be cooked! (Gratin, anyone?)
- Try that new fruit being sold by the Chinatown fruit vendors even though you have no clue what it is (I tried Mangosteen – delicious!)
- Create your own new ways of making and eating food (The hubby made a tofu-eggplant pasta. First try, horrible. Second one, delicious!)
- Read and learn about food through books and the internet. Food memoirs, recipes, ingredients, growing food, processing food (Bread making is my current fascination. I am on book #3 on the topic)
Enjoy
- Focus on the food – the aroma of a curry, the heat of a chile, the flavor of an apple, the colour of the vegetable, the freshness of bread
- Remove distractions – the TV, the radio, the book.
- Eat slow (This one is hard for me!)
- Never eat alone. Find a friend, join the family, talk.
Plan
- Make a grocery list. Shop as infrequently as you can manage for dry food and as frequently as you can for the fresh food (I do once a month for dry foods with frequent supplements of fruits and veggies every week)
- Do your grocery shopping at an odd hour. You will avoid the crowds. You will get a chance to checkout new options.
- Pick better food to eat. Buy fruits and vegetables in season. They will be amazingly tastier and priced well. Eat lentils and beans. They are good for you, are cheap and offer a lot of possibities.
- Plan some meal themes and ideas for the week. Don’t overplan though!
- Pack a lunch for work atleast a few times a week
- Pack food when you are on the road, at airports, at places where you are not sure of the food you might get
- Freeze, process, pickle to relish good food for a long time
The 58-60 kg weight range made me feel the happiest. Right now, I am down from 68.5 to 65.0 kgs. On my way…
