It was a complete rollercoaster ride to buy my own home, but it was totally worth it. I had it in my mind that I had to wait to “find me a man” to purchase a house, but I went ahead and did it. It took a lot of hurdles because my credit wasn’t good, but it was completely worth it for me. Now, the roller coaster ride the last 18 months has been to be able to maintain the house and deal with new “bumps” that come along (like the A/C needing to be replaced, the dryer breaking down, stuff like that), but it is still great to be in my room, in my living room, share with my children and know that we did this just the three of us!
I have been a professor in both Mexico and in the U.S. I think that both experiences have been totally amazing. For me, the “ideal” life includes a bit of teaching, a bit of writing/research, and a bit of my psychotherapy that I love doing… and the teaching is something I totally love and can not ever getting completely rid of. Right now I only teach as an adjunct and love it because I can stay immersed in my field, and yet still have the thrill of sharing with new students as they stretch themselves and explore their own paths a bit more… plus it keeps me on top of the current trends in the field and really reinforces my learning…
plus, what is better than being paid to be the center of attention and being paid to be continually learning.. and TALKING to people who actually take notes about what you are saying? :) Actually, the real thrill is just being able to share in the experience of others as they learn new things and watching their minds expand…
