get over my fear of flying

i don’t know what my problem is, but i’ve gotten progressively more scared of flying over the past 10 years or so. it’s gotten so bad i can hardly get on a plane anymore, and have cancelled a trip the night before because i felt certain the plane would crash. (it didn’t.) i have a prescription for lorazepam (ativan), which helps a bit but leaves me totally useless when it’s time to get off the plane. if anyone has suggestions about how to get over this, please help!



Visit Japan
so great i want to go back 4 years ago

i went to japan when i was 16 (holy crap, that was 14 years ago!), and visited friends around the country. i stayed primarily in himeji and would recommend going there to anyone who visits japan. it’s not as crazy as tokyo, and the castle is super cool. i also spent time in a zen monastery in osaka, and also went to hiroshima, nara, and kyoto. i would really love to go back someday.



run a half marathon

i wasn’t a big fan of running, but i thought committing to a half marathon would make me like it. i did like the training, and i did like the act of running long distances because i’m a slow runner and at that pace you can just keep going and going…

however, i felt like it was too hard on my body, especially running that much on pavement. at the end of the race (the seattle half marathon two years ago) my knees hurt and my hips hurt and it took me a long time to recover. so for me, running that much isn’t really worth the payoff. i’m sticking to doing triathlons, where i can train for several different sports and keep the running to shorter distances. i highly recommend tris for anyone who doesn’t like to run as much because of the injury factor.
