My friend and I had just finished hiking in the Rockies and we decided to walk back to my car from where the trail had ended. Bad plan. We underestimated the distance and well, we kind of on the spur of the moment ended up hitchhiking because it was just too far to walk. We got picked up by a camp 15-passenger van full of kids, so it turned out fine and we didn’t get raped or mugged. But even though the conditions were probably safe, it was dumb. You just don’t know what could happen and in that situation the person(s) who picks you up is completely in control.

I climbed Gray’s Peak in Colorado this past weekend. It is 14,270 feet tall. It was very difficult, even for me, a native Coloradoan! But it was so worth it to reach the summit and reflect on my achievement while looking down on other mountains from the top of the world!
