How I did it: I didn't have to do much. Once he saw the cats tearing up the furniture he was open to finishing the job. i took off a lot of the carpet but gave up. he finished taking off some of the carpet and put new carpet on about half of it. it's a much smaller but fully functional cat scratcher. saved me $70.
