How I did it: I studied abroad through my university in summer 2007 and went back in summer 2008 on a fellowship to conduct independent research for my thesis.The two experiences were VERY different. My study abroad experience was with 25 other undergraduates, while my experience as a researcher was alone. Going alone in 2008, I was very glad that I had been before and that I knew the language. so proud!
How I did it: I took French for three years in college as part of my ciriculum. It is such a beautiful language, and I really committed myself to practicing. Studying abroad and conducting independent research abroad in Paris the last two summers also helped increase my proficency. Now, the goal is to keep it up!
