I’ve done a lot towards this goal. The major work has been done on my el-wire project which is about 3/4 of the way done now. I’ve finished the jacket unless I want to add one more piece of el-wire and I have one leg to do on my pants. I really like the way one side of the jacket turned out and think the other side is good enough. My wife and dressed in our el-wire costumes this weekend (hers is complete) at a party and everyone thought they were great. I can’t wait until mine is done.
We also went fabric shopping for playa wear and we found some great pink, sparkly, furry cloth that will be one of my pairs of pants. We also got some great fabric for shirts. I learned how to cut the material out for a pattern and cut out my pants material.
I also finished my main daytime hat and like the way it turned out.
I will eventually post pictures but not yet.
I haven’t been on 43things recently partially due to this goal. I couldn’t think of a new way to give cheers and I felt the pressure of working on this goal if I got on. I think that dropping the goal will increase my enjoyment of this site and get me back here regularly again.
My wife has been teaching classes this week on the nights I hit the gym. Since she doesn’t get home until after I normally would I added 30 minutes to my gym night Monday and 45 minutes tonight. I also started early today, so it was a very full workout. I climbed for 3 hours and 20 minutes tonight and boy can I feel it. I normally climb for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
This was a somewhat disappointing method. I thought there would be lots of active cheers goals but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Most of the goals are about giving out a specific number of cheers. Oh well, not every method will be a winner.
My wife got a bee in her bonnet about getting the retaining wall on one side of our front yard built. She has been digging behind the existing retaining wall for the last week and a half or so, just getting a little out each day. Friday afternoon she was all gung-ho about completing that side and I was roped into helping out.
The wall was only about 18 inches high, so it was easy to build. We were able to use those retaining wall bricks with the lip on the back that hold onto the brick under them. We found the ones we liked figured out how many we’d need and bought the first half for the that side of the yard. We did this Friday night and then worked on setting them Saturday morning. Things weng more quickly than we expected and we were able to complete the one side by early afternoon. I started to dig out the other side of the yard and we actually had it ready to set late that afternoon. We went out and got the first half of bricks for that side and got up early Sunday morning before a party we had to go to and got those set. We got back Sunday afternoon, made another run for the remaining bricks and finished up both sides during the weekend.
We’re both sore and a little tired today, but we’re absolutely thrilled that the main portion of our front yard landscaping is done. Now that we’ve done that we really want to complete it all.
I started with the first goal listed on the 43 things main page and found the most recent cheered entry for that goal. I then found the most recent cheerer of that entry and gave that person a cheer on their goal with the most recent entry that was cheered. I did this repeatedly until all of my cheers were gone.
It was a lot of fun to do this. I came across and cheered one of the people I’m subscribed to and came across several others I’ve cheered before. I also found some people I hadn’t seen before and gave them some cheers too.
I’m 3/5’s of the way done with total design of my el-wire outfit. I have yet to come up with an idea for my left leg and I have to make the final design of the right side of my jacket.
I’ve sewn on about 90% of the el-wire for my right leg and just need to finish that up. I want to sit on my bicycle seat with the pants on to make sure I won’t be crushing the wire when I ride. I’ll need my wife’s assistance to make sure I get a good outline of the seat when I sit on it.
However I have been drawing designs for my Burning Man el-wire costume. It’s definitely helped me in the design process.
I’ve been doing a poor job at all my goals lately. I did some prep for a lot of my goals, but have either not worked on my goals at all or concentrated my work on my Burning Man projects. It’s time to spread some of the effort out.
This one was fun because it gave me a chance to give back to people who’ve taken the time to give to me.
I took my initial drawings and then put twine on the clothing I have for my el wire to see what it would look like. I ended up changing it a few times and finally came up with a design I like.
Now I’m going through the gruelling process of sewing the el wire on my clothing. I’m not that great at sewing so it’s rather slow going. However I’m getting it done so much earlier than I was trying to do it last year. I think it will probably end up taking me a two or three weeks of working an hour or two a day to get it done. Only time will tell.
I’ll post pictures after Burning Man.
Today I gave out cheers to the goals that are listed on the main page saying something like “Susie wants to learn to draw”. After following the link to their goals, I checked to see if they’d posted an entry for any of their goals in the last week and cheered the goal listed in the main list.
Interestingly enough one person had a goal listed on the main page that didn’t appear in their list.
I found this method a lot of fun because I found people who were active and a lot of people who seem to have stopped using 43 things.
I have had some amazing internet penpals in the past. We’ve eventually gond our separate ways, but I’ve definitely been very influenced by my penpals. Most of the interactions happened somewhat by accident. I either started a dialogue about something they wrote on some sort of bulletin board or forum and our relationship slowly grew into a friendship. I’m starting to miss that sort of interaction and would like to start one up again.
So, if something in my 43 things interests you or one of my comments interests you, drop me a line.
Since I “meditate” in the mornings before getting out of bed, sometimes I fall back into a sleep/dream state during my meditation. Interestingly enough this has somewhat helped my creative visualization because it sometimes points out areas of my life that I would like to change.
For me this is picking up things from outside by being open to them. Rather than concentrating on only the things I’ve thought of to work on I’m bringing in things that come to me without my conscious effort. I still consider them still part of me, it’s just that it’s not something I’m choosing consciously. Based on what I know about the dream state, it’s my unconscious communicating with my conscious mind.
If you have any sort of experience which seems similar to this I’d love to hear about it in the form of a comment.
It was relatively easy to do and the cheers went quickly.
I’ll still be looking for another project, but I’ve agreed to be the helmsman for the conclave group my wife is in if they get into the main fire conclave at Burning Man. I was planning on being a fire safety, but they need a helmsman more than a fire safety. It will potentially interesting and hectic.
The helmsman is pretty much the “stage manager” for the group and makes sure that things happen when they’re supposed to. I certainly hope that the group gets into the main conclave so that I can do this for them. I was in the main conclave as a fire safety last year and it was absolutely amazing.
I don’t like to post other people’s images, so here’s a link to an image that I’m in:
If you scroll down from the man and move to the right you can see a man in red spinning his poi. I’m the figure at the end of his right fire arc. I’m kneeling on the ground doing fire safety for the group. It was a wonderful experience.
I’ve gone to people who have the same goals I have and given cheers to people who’ve recently put entries onto the goal. However I gave them cheers for a different goal than the one we share.
Sometimes when we ride in an elevator alone we engage in a little passionate kissing. It’s kind of fun. The place we do it most often is in the nursing home where her grandfather lives. We haven’t been caught, but we’re very careful.
My favorite elevator partner was a woman I was going out with who worked at the same company that I did. We were in the same organization, but in different groups. She and I used to work on the 12th floor, so when we were alone in the elevator sometimes we had a fairly long ride and some great makeout sessions. We used to get caught a little closer than expected when the elevator would stop unexpectedly. We had a lot of fun together and my memories of our times together are some of my favorites (in the elevator and out.)
I was in the dorms getting ready to move out for winter vacation when a friend came over. She caught me under the mistletoe and gave me a wonderful kiss. We had a few more, but unfortunately that was the extent of our affectionate exchanges. She started going out with another guy from the dorms and then left school at the end of the next semester.
I’ve kissed and been kissed under the mistletoe on multiple occasions since then, but that remains my favorite mistletoe experience.
After putting all of my music in my iPod and rating all of it I’ve come up with about 128 songs that I gave 5 stars to. I want to put those songs onto some CDs. I’ll probably make some general mix CDs and some themed CDs.
