Listening in the classroom
According to my SCOM 240 book, page 46, a study by Ralph Nichols and Leonard Stevens reveals that listening performance worsens over time. If a teacher were to stop in the middle of class and ask “What was I just talking about” 90% of first graders would know. Only 43.7% of Middle Graders would know compared to that of high schoolers (28%). There is a huge gap between what we can do and what we actually do as listeners.
