I was scared to do it at first too, but really it’s not bad at all. If you’ve ever had to get an IV, that’s basically all the pain involved in donating blood. I found the experience kind of relaxing, and definitely satisfying afterwards. And I obviously didn’t need that blood anyway, I’m doing just fine without it!

Since I have to be able to run a 15-minute two-mile by summer for drum corps, I’ve been running every day. At first it was just as miserable as it has always been, but very quickly it went from a chore to a hobby. Every day I run a little bit longer or a little bit faster, and every day I get more in shape. Definitely one of the best things I’ve done for myself in a while.

I got a job, and went on a spree right before school started. I’m so glad I can finally wear clothes that don’t hide my shape.

It was actually really easy… I didn’t do anything drastic. A month ago I just starting watching what I eat. No crazy diets, just not eat anything I don’t need. I walked a little bit more, and in no time I was 10 lbs lighter! It just takes patience and a little willpower.

I finally got a job at my mom’s law firm. I work 9-4 three days a week for $7 an hour. It’s boring work, but my next paycheck is $322, and that is more money than I’ve ever had in my entire life, and finally I can do things with my friends. Thank God!

My dad is a major blues guy. He tried to teach me to play the harmonica when I was in the 4th-5th grade, but quite frankly, I never had the attention span for it.
Seven years later, I’m a pretty decent euphonium/trombone player, and I’m in a big jazz band. I think it would be pretty cool if I could learn the harmonica for real, so I could jam in a blues combo.
I know my old harmonica is around here somewhere…

It’s so incredible how much walking helps your health. I’ve been walking daily for a few months now, and I have lost weight, and gained an excellent get-away for when I’m stressed (which is almost always with finals approaching). During the summer I hope to walk even more than I do now, and maybe start running. For now, however, just 45 minutes of brisk walking does wonders for me. I recommend it to everyone.

The power of the stars is incredible.
One night three friends and I slept on a trampoline on a clear night. For hours we stared up at the sky and just talked about things we never talked about. I am now so much closer to them because of this.
Someday I want to sleep under the stars on my own so I can think about things I never think about and get closer to myself.

If I dyed my hair pink, I wouldn’t be allowed into marching band!
I’m thinking maybe a reddish brown instead.

I’ve spent the past few years trying to totally forget my past. What I didn’t realize was that I was forgetting an entire part of my being! I went on a trip to West Virginia (my hometown) a month ago for a funeral, and I had entirely lost all of my memories with the person who had passed away! Throughout that week I struggled to bring back those precious memories so I would be able to understand exactly what I had lost. Since then I’ve been looking through old photos and journals and bringing back the memories I had almost lost entirely, and I can now look into the past and see the mistakes I had made, and how I can prevent them from happening again.

Well, in the end I didn’t visit the cemetery for no particular reason. A month and a half ago my cousin died and I went to his burial. It was crushing but vital to my acceptance of his death. Avoiding the issue will just make it all the more harder as the years go by. Now I still feel depressed about it, but I can go on with my life. I recommend that everyone who has lost someone go and visit them at their grave. It’s definitely more rewarding than it sounds.

Prom was pretty good. Overall I’d say go for it, but make sure you go with people you know you’ll have fun with.
Since it’s just my junior year, I didn’t worry about it too much. I bought a $100 dress at Sears, did my own hair and make-up, and overall it cost less that $300. Next year I intend to go all out, and hopefully it will be a slightly better experience than this.
(I’m in white, by the way… I look more like a bride than someone going to prom!)
