Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Take a photo every day

Photography is one of my favorite hobbies. What better way to remember my years in college than to take a picture every day? 365, Here I come!

run a 5k
Baby Steps!

Another one of my goals is to run a marathon…might as well take baby steps, right?

run a marathon
How Great Would This Be?

Seriously, how great would this be? Running a marathon isn’t something you can just crawl out of bed one day and decide to do; it takes dedication and hard work.

My mom and dad have each run half-marathons in the past and I have a friend who runs full marathons. Motivation, right there. (That’s half the battle, right?)

I know I have a long way to go (literally), but I’m confident. If I set my mind to this I know I can do it.

get 500 followers on tumblr

Tumblr is my obsession…why? Who knows. It’s a time-waster, it’s fun, it’s something I can look back on and laugh at.

Right now I’m a little over halfway to this goal (260-ish followers). I’ve still got quite a bit farther to go, but I’m confident that this will happen one day!

p.s. If you want to help…. :)

Learn to cook

Who doesn’t want to do this? Fooooood. So good.

run a mile in 8 minutes
Slowly but Surely

I want to decrease the amount of time it takes me to run a mile. Slow and steadr, right? Wait…

learn yoga
I Feel Like...

I feel like I am the type of person people would expect to do yoga. In fact, people tell me this all the time. Why? It’s not like I walk around in yoga pants all the time (although if you do, more power to you). I think it may be the headbands I wear? My calm demeanor? Who knows.

Anyway, I like the vision of myself doing yoga every morning. Imagine how relaxing it would be. Now, this is not to say that I believe yoga is easy. I know how hard it is. I took a class once…it was rough. But, yeah. We shall see how this turns out.

Become tumblr famous
What is the Criteria?

What’s the criteria for being tumblr famous anyway? Hmmmm.

I don’t know. I’d just like to have more followers. I still, however, enjoy using my tumblr for personal posts. I’m not going to cater my blog to fit other peoples’ needs. That’s important to me.

see my favorite bands live
My Life

My life has an unforunate shortage of live music. I’m wating to change this.

Possible bands I’d like to see:
The National, Grizzly Bear, Iron & Wine, Belle and Sebastian, The Antlers, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Fleet Foxes, As Tall As Lions ( not a possibility :( no), Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Mumford and Sons, Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, The Shins, Andrew Bird, etc.

live in london
Can't Say How Long

this has been a goal of mine. Years. I remember fantasizing about living in England from about the age of 10. I’m not sure what it is about it, but I’ve always just found it sort of…mystical. Maybe it’s the fog.

Anyway, my first goal is to study abroad somewhere in England. From there we shall see where this goes.

become fluent in spanish

After taking 2 years of Latin in high school taught by a poor teacher, Spanish started out really easy for me. I enjoyed it. I’ve now almost completed my second semester of Spanish in college, and although I am by no means fluent, I definitely have a greater understanding of the language than I ever did with Latin.

I hope to become fluent in Spanish. I’ve visited Spain and it truly is such a beautiful language. There are also the added obvious benefits of knowing spanish for future careers, which would be undeniably helpful as well.

My hope is to work hard to get a minor in Spanish and then continue to speak it and use it often enough to maintain my fluency throughout my lifetime.

be more patient
Patience is a Virtue

I try to be patient. I really do. It’s difficult, though, isn’t it? I guess that old saying “patience is a virtue” exists for a reason.

I think I need to sit back, take a deep breath, and remember that it’s not the end of the world. Patience is such a great characteristic for a person to have. It’s my goal to have it one day.

go on a road trip with no predetermined destination
How Amazing Would this Be?

As a freshman in college, I feel like this is a pretty common goal. It sounds so…reckless? So spontaneous? So…everything-I-want-to-be-but-am-too-afraid-or-young-to-be? Eventually this will happen. If not now, then when? I have friends. I have a car. I can save up for the outrageously expensive tanks of gas this goal will take. I can do this.

visit all 50 states
Visit all 50 States

I love to travel. That sounds so generic I’m a little disgusted that I just typed it; everyone wants to travel, don’t they? Most people do, anyway. I’m not nor have I ever been a very big fan or America or Amurrika as some may say, but this is most likely just a grass-is-always-greener complex. I do, however, recognize how beautiful and diverse a country I live in. I’ve travelled within the United States quite a bit: from Hawaii to Maryland, but there are quite a few states I would still love to visit.

As I’m a freshman in college right now, it doesn’t look like this travelling will be happening anytime son. But babysteps, right? A roadtrip here, a roadtrip there and soon enough this goal will be accomplished. Can’t wait.
