Now that I moved my son’s computer into his bedroom, I’m trying to figure how I should use this extra space in my home office. I thought about buying a used couch, but that might look too awkward. Any suggestions?

How I did it: I use ING.com banking and have money transferred automatically from my checking to my savings each month. Unfortunately, I do have to dip into savings at least every other month to pay unexpected things, such as car problems. But it's still worth putting some money back for emergencies. I'm now moving on to save $2,000. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Use the Mint.com budget system. I check my budget once a week, and also by using the Mint app on my iPhone. I also now purchase ebooks or kindle books rather than paper books which has reduced the monthly costs of buying books. With ebooks, I don't purchase until I make the commitment to read them. I plan to finish Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs biography in the next few weeks. I started it when it was first published back in I think Nov, but I got distracted by other things. So it will be first book I finish for the new year.
