How I did it: I started slow so that I would not burn out and stop walking. It took 35 days of really pushing towards it, and the walking then became a habit. The hardest thing was looking down at the pedometer, thinking I had reached the goal and realizing that I was well short of it. That got to be a little frustrating. Take a book with you everywhere.
Keep books in the restroom of your home. Read a small amount before you go to bed. Even if you only read 10 pages every day, that is 3,650 pages per year, which is around 10 books.
Do not buy more than one book at a time, no matter how good the deal, unless they are books that you are buying as gifts.
