How I did it: I decided I wanted to move here for school. So in July I started craigslisting for apartments, found one with an august 15th move in date. Got someone to drive me up in august, and found a job three weeks later. Not as hard as I expected, and cheaper than I thought (you get used to the ridiculous nyc prices pretty quickly). I love it.
