I was here about six months ago and have not drunk since. I have been using a website at We Quit Drinking. There are other places as well, for example Rational Recovery. If you include others in your quit, you increase your possibility of success by a long way. People around you often do not appreciate your problem, sometimes even partners. They can be a problem rather than an help.
It can be done alone but it is hard.

This has changed my life like hardly anything I have ever done before. It started out as a quick decision after a not particularly bad night.
In the three months I have found and joined and now partially run a group for post alcohol people.
Recently joined another group WQD that has a different approach.
I have spent a lot of time doing this but hopefully it is part of an ongoing process of renewal.
Some of the people here use this space in a meaninful way. Like Fairly Fearless and the departed Empressjuju. For most it is just flim.
I am not saying people are not doing stuff. and I enjoy the flip as well as the next. But more is needed to really change

As a bit of Internet research I have investigated people and tobacco on 43T.
People use various ways of stating their goals, however this group seems to have a really high percentage of success. congratulations.
Is it a group thing or is it the way of stating the goal??

I did not use his method, but did something similar by myself.
I have read extensively about this method and have now stopped drinking as well while I am on the groove.
The extra breathing, the tiny pure bits of angel snot that I get now compared to before. After 3 months your lungs start self cleaning again. Smells come back, sometimes you wish you still live in the filtered world.
Here are others who use this method and how they got there.

It is as if you have decided not to punch yourself in the face every morning.

I saw EdShelby’s entry here http://www.43things.com/person/edshelby and I thought yes we should come back like the cured lepers (see gospels) and remind people
“Yes, you can do it.”
“Yes the benefits are great.”
Also I think it is important that it really is gone that you have worked through your trigger points and the desire is totally gone. You are clear and clean. As likely to smoke as eat oven cleaner.
I did not use Allen Carr method, but did something similar by myself.

For more than ten years, I did this. I used to say Bill and Bill (Gates and Clinton) do this, so why not. Quite a bit is available on line. Technology Quarterly is great. Perhaps it would be better to read at a library as another reason for getting out more.
Though it is slanted, it is the best form of slanted, in that it declares its slant and doesn’t pretend that spin doesn’t not exist.

Robert Smithson’s Great Spiral Jetty of 1970 was submerged and thought to have disappeared for ever. However the changing level of the Great Salt Lake has made the Jetty appear and then sink again. Argument centres around its worth and whether it should be restored, or whether decay or at least surrender to fate is built into the concept from the start.

The last about eight entries over the last two days are about people who are winning at this goal and just confirming their strategy, rather than complaining about failure or looking for a process to go about it. I have commented enough about what I have done. So in proper Carrie fashion
“When do you call it completed and does it make a difference”

I threw myself at it after years away. As usual I went too far too fast an dpretty much lost the plot. But I understand Web 2.0, maybe 2.15 even. spanky corners, mauve colourschemes, pure compliant semantically pure separated. Tables, no thanks.
Time to jump back in and back my dreams.
