How I did it: I loved to smoke in my car. So now I always keep sugarless gum in my car. I don't go to the gas station where I used to buy cigs. I changed my routine which distracted me from the habit. How I did it: I submitted 2 payments every month to get ahead on the interest. Direct Loans won't let you pay a principle only payment-so I paid a significant amount on the due date and an even bigger amount later in the month. I put every extra dollar that came my way to this debt. Tax refund, stimulus checks. I told everyone I knew about this goal and it forced me to live up to my goal of paying off my loan in one year. OMG! I am tired. I work work work (I love my job btw). Summer is tourist season and it has been kind to me. With this terrible recession I have also learned that CASH IS KING! This particular goal is teaching me how to maximize and protect what I have during a strange financial period.
