Read 53 books this year
Book 1 to 14 7 months ago

Yep, one book every day, that’s the plan.
Here’s what I’ve read so far:
1. Weil ich es mir wert bin (Because I’m worth it)
Interesting book about self esteem and loving oneself. Not a “burner” but okay. Was a christmas gift from my mom.
2. Die Karrierebible (“Career bible”)
Meh. Another Christmas gift. Not exactly what I’d call a good book but some good advice.
3. Mieses Karma (“Bad Karma”), Safier
Story about a self-centered career woman who doesn’t pay enough attention to her families` needs and is then reborn as an ant and has to work her way up until she’s reborn as a human again. Easy reading and sometimes pretty hilarious.
4. Bockmist, Hugh Laurie
Not quite as good as it promised to be but still worthwile and funny. If you like action movies and have a good sense of humour, you’ll love it.
5. Schmitz’ Katze (“Schmitz’s cat”), Ralf Schmitz
The German comedian Ralf Schmitz describes his life with his 23yr old cat Minka. Hilarious! Especially, if you have a cat and/or dog on your own. Definitely great!
6. Die Vermessung der Welt, Daniel Kehlmann
Funny story about Gauß and Humboldt. And also teaches some things about science and life at the time. However, from a scientific point of you, “A short story of everything” contains more actual knowledge and is just as witty.
7. Le petit Nicolas, Sempé & Goscinny
Merveilleux! Nicolas, an elementary school student, tells episodes about his daily life with his parents, friends, teachers. It’s cute and funny, what else can I say? And you’ve got to love the pictures.
8. Simplify your life, Küstenmacher/Seiwert
Yes, I’m late to the party. But many tips in the book were really useful for me in order to be a little more organized.
9. Mängelexemplar, Sarah Kuttner
A young woman tells the story of her depression. And not in a sad way but rather witty. I loved it and read it in less than two hours on the train to Dusseldorf.
10. Like the river flowing, Paulo Coelho
It’s good, like everything he does. But it hasn’t had as much impact on me as other books he wrote did.
11. Onze minutes, Paulo Coelho
Interesting theories about love and a very romantic story despite – or just because – the main character being a prostitute. I found this to be really touching.
12. The witch of Portobello, Paulo Coelho
It’s about following your path, overcoming prejudices, and once again, love. Written from an interesting perspective (other people who knew the main character describe her in short essays/articles).
13. Brida, Paulo Coelho
One of the very, very few books which made me cry. Although it’s not the most influential Coelho for me, the story was extremely deep and touching. Romantic without ever being cheesy. I hope to see the point of light, too :-)
14. The Zahir, Paulo Coelho
The main character’s wife leaves him (disappears) because he doesn’t give her the affection she deserves and he goes on his personal odyssee to find her. Intense and quite a thriller.

Obviously, I’m a little behind, as it’s the 18th week already, but I have three half-read books on my desk which I hope to finish soon in order to keep up with my personal challenge…

I gave money to a farmer who needed to buy food for his calves :-) He’s even started paying money back by now and I think this is totally worth doing!

Daily: Reflect on 5 things for which I'm grateful. (read all 4 entries…)
Day 4 19 months ago

1. Cappucino with “daim” flavor, my newest tasty discovery
2. Having my teacher’s support for some difficult decisions.
3. Not having to worry about the future.
4. Being healthy.
5. Beating “A Very Spooky Sprint” in Supermario Galaxy (Hey, I had to work on that one for some weeks!)
