Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

make the Dean's List

not too hard so i figure what the hell, why not? haha

Perfect My Spanish Skills

who is to determine what “perfect” is. as much as i love spanish and hope to continue in it, this is just way too vague a goal.

memorize "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe (read all 2 entries…)

minorly sucessful. i do have the first five stanzas memorized. but then again, that’s exactly what i had memorized 5 years ago. in other words, no progress.

Collect Beatles memorabilia (read all 2 entries…)

yeah, i have a few things… t-shirt, poster, vintage lunchbox (jk on that last one), but this isn’t really worth it. especially on a college student’s budget

Explore the Country Via a Road Trip (read all 2 entries…)

it’s crazy how big the world is

Explore the Country Via a Road Trip (read all 2 entries…)

does booze cruisin’ count?? jk jk ;)

Skewer Someone's Lawn
Good Times

Hands down the best prank I’ve ever been involved with.

Successfully Go Ghosthunting

I just wrote a VERY long entry on this and now it’s not here. Omigosh.

Be in Madison on Halloween
While this is more of an event than a goal,

I need to work up the guts to actually go to Madison. I’m not really a throw-caution-to-the-wind type of person; I tend to worry to much. Besides, from what I’ve heard from people at Madison, they’re not allowed to have guests in the dorms over Halloween. That is really funny.

I think it would be a lot of fun, and cool to be able to say I was there. Such a college phenomenom.

Make crop circles
This past school year,

I generated quite a bit of interest among my friends and classmates about making crop circles.

I even researched methods on the internet, but because we ran out of time and couldn’t find a good place to do it, we never got around to making crop circles.

fly a kite
I have to admit,

I honestly have never flown a kite. It seems hard… is it as hard as it looks? I remember I used to try to make kites out of plastic bags and whatnot but never actually flew one.

crowd surf
Once once

have I had an opportunity to crowd surf, because I’ve only been to one concert (see my list of completed things). I would’ve done it then, but I’ve heard so many horror stories of people getting dropped and then trampled. Plus, when I was standing there at the concert, I would get annoyed when people would come over me. And I don’t want to be an annoyance to anyone.

Make it Through These Last Few Weeks Before College (sans Nervous Breakdown) (read all 2 entries…)

was my last day of work before I leave for college. Saying goodbye to my boss – to whom I am not particularly attached to -I felt the sad pangs of goodbye. I think it was more just a realization that some of my best friends have already left and others will be leaving in a few days. That makes me sad. I just might break down when I say goodbye to these people.

Collect Beatles memorabilia (read all 2 entries…)
As much

as I love the Beatles, this probably contradicts my goal to “Stop wasting money.” Haha – but some things are so worth it. However, I did get a nice postor of the Fab Four for my dorm room. It’s that one classic one that many people have with the fake autographs, but mine doesn’t have that – it’s that picture but cropped at the top and bottom. I like it.

Make it Through These Last Few Weeks Before College (sans Nervous Breakdown) (read all 2 entries…)
Let's see...

only 8 more days to go. I’m really excited, but a little worried, especially about the money. Anyone on here finance their own college education? Give me advice on how to get through it.

Have a career I love.
I wish I could just start

being an architect today, to find out if it’s what I really want to do. I’ve wanted to be one forever – since 5th grade – but that can be a good or a bad thing. Perhaps I’ve been telling myself so long that I want to be an architect that I think I am really passionate about it. Don’t get me wrong – I’m working for an architect right now and I really enjoy it.

Visit the Parthenon
Every since

I saw it in my favorite book as a kid (also the one that inspired me to become an architect) – “Square Buildings, Round Buildings, Buildings that Wiggle Like a Fish” – the building has fascinated me. I recently read an article aboout a girl who picked up a rock there to pose and was thrown in jail. I loved seeing the Parthenon when the Olympics were in Athens and they’d always pan the camera over it. Hopefully someday I’ll be able to visit it myself.

Die Peacefully (When My Time Comes)
In my senior year of high school

I took a class titled “Death & Dying.” This class helped me become slightly more comfortable about the physical aspects of dying, but it’s the other things that scare me more. For example, what if I don’t make it to heaven? This ties in with my goal about finding my path to spirituality. I try to live a good life and all, but I’m not religous nor even spiritual. I don’t want to die painfully, but I also don’t want to die mentally years before I die physically. Like in The Notebook. Yes, the love story is cute, but what it is truly sad is that the woman HAS to relearn everything everyday. That’s not how I want to be.

Become Someone's Role Model
It always seems

that some people can’t grow up until they have to. I am one of those people. I never really considered how my actions affected others until it came to my attention how much my 8-year-old niece looks up to me. Honey, you can find better than me. Now I have to hide my negatives from her both because I don’t want to her to pick them up and because I don’t want to let her down. She already follows my lead on so many things, I need to be careful not to lead her in the wrong direction.
