For other aspiring programmers and those already in the field, what are your best methods for learning new languages and skills and breaking into the programming field – is it classroom, reading, connections with other programmers, hands-on training? What would be the quickest, most straight-forward route to go from little experience with .NET to getting a job in the field?

Are there any other couples out there who have moved to a new city with no family or other connections there? What have been your strategies for meeting new people or other couples to hang out with?

I’d ideally like to get into programming and creating web applications. I have a little experience with classic ASP (3.0) and would like to learn Microsoft’s .NET framework and to learn ASP.NET, VB.NET, Visual Source Safe.NET, etc.
