For other aspiring programmers and those already in the field, what are your best methods for learning new languages and skills and breaking into the programming field – is it classroom, reading, connections with other programmers, hands-on training? What would be the quickest, most straight-forward route to go from little experience with .NET to getting a job in the field?

I’d ideally like to get into programming and creating web applications. I have a little experience with classic ASP (3.0) and would like to learn Microsoft’s .NET framework and to learn ASP.NET, VB.NET, Visual Source Safe.NET, etc.
