Russia is not for the faint of heart, or for those dependant upon the conveniences of Western Europe and North America. Everything moves slower, its difficult to find what your looking for, and customer service is non-existent. But, the people are warm, the land is beautiful, and the culture is incredibly interesting.

No better way than living there. If you really want to learn, study abroad or volunteer for a couple months. Russia is a very interesting place
Lake Baikal
I participated in the Great Baikal Trail Project, and spent two months in Siberia building trails and hanging out. Lake Baikal is amazingly beautiful, I loved the people, and it was the best summer job ever! If you can have the money for the plane ticket, you won’t spend much more on living there (food and boarding is cheap, especially if you are camping and building trails like I was). For more info on the Great Baikal Trail, go to www.earthisland.org/ecotours/volunteer/ eurasia/baikal/Baikal_Construction.html.
