How I did it: I was in Guatemala for six months for an internship, and was incredibly fortunate to win a free trip to Tikal. Flight and accomodation were paid for. It was an incredible opportunity! Read how I did it…
How I did it: I did it at my own time and pace - I took a year off after my undergrad, and also took time off during the Master's to do an internship. I had a lot of naysayers who said that I would never finish if I took breaks, but I knew that it were the breaks that would ensure that I finished! Read how I did it…
How I did it: While I studied French in primary and secondary school, I needed to become bilingual for my job. I went on full-time training - 40 hours a week for six months. A few tricks: speak french all the time in training (even if you know you are making mistakes!); watch french tv and read french articles; sometimes you just have to memorize the verbs! I finished my Master’s degree in 2000. I loved my thesis topic and enjoyed the program..well enjoy may not be the correct word. It was a year full of self-exploration and personal achievements, and at times I felt like the stupidist person in the world! Anyone who has truly thrown themselves into a philosophical/intellectual pursuit will surely understand. Since that time, I have routinely pondered the idea of a Phd. It wouldn’t be to increase my earning potential, or to become a professor, but in the end, to allow me to continue to learn and grow as a person.
For the first step, I am going to look into programs in my city and see what is available…
Gracie and I have been having a difficult weekend. It started with Gracie deciding that my favorite gym clothes would make a lovely Friday night snack (stupid of me for leaving my gym bag on the bedroom floor). It continued last night with Gracie chewing my newly washed long-sleeved grey shirt, which I loved (stupid me again for leaving the freshly washed clothes on the bedroom floor). Gracie and I have discussed this behaviour, and while she has promised to not do it again, sadly, she is not to be trusted as she can’t help herself :) She has chew toys and gets lots of exercise, but at the end of the day, I need to remember that she can not resist temptation and I must put all of my favorite (and not so favorite items) out of reach…
