The Parlor, The Frisby House Punk Hostel, The Wail, 709 Railroad, The Model Home, there’s a ton of these places. They all vary a bit in what music they have and not all of them do art shows, but they’re all very DIY and incredibly awesome places to be. A lot of punks like to travel to places like that, but I want to be that place. The hardest part is getting a house. It’d have to be a stand alone house with a central room big enough for shows, in a place with agreeable neighbors. I’d like a place just outside the city. Then comes the task of finding people who are on the same page as me to move with, this might actually be harder than finding a house. I have two friends who’d partake but they can’t move out in the near future. Then comes the money. I’d like to own but I’d settle for renting. I could get fulltime at my job but I’d still only be able to afford like 240 a month speaking in safe terms (a weeks pay), possibly a bit more. I don’t really know how this is going to work, it’s going to be nerve wracking, but oh so worth it.

How I did it: I knew I wanted a wrist tattoo. I decided on a song, but since I already have lyrics, I wanted to represent it with art. So I drew a crude sketch and decided I liked it. I took it to my tattoo guy and figured out how much it would cost and made an appointment. The song is Ten Things by Paul Baribeau. Read how I did it…
I got my first tattoo on Valentine’s Day 2008, 4 days after my 18th birthday. It didn’t hurt nearly as much as I thought it would, and my artist was really cool (I’ll go back to him forever). The tattoo is on my shoulder in cursive, it’s lyrics from Against Me!’s song, “8 Full Hours of Sleep.” It says, “The sun is always rising in the sky somewhere” and it’s my motto for life.
