Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Get a tattoo
Untitled

Got my first tattoo in December of 07 and I love it. It is the outline of a heart on my right hip. I can’t wait to get another.

My suggestions for anyone who wants to get a tattoo and it will be their first one (even for those who have one already and want another):
1) get something that won’t go out of fashion (do NOT get a band name or brand name or something)
2) get something that can be easily hidden in case you get a job that doesn’t allow them or in case you get sick of it (get something small and in a hidden spot)
3) go to a well respected, clean tattoo studio and artist (don’t compromise your safety or health for a cheaper price or them not checking for ID – which leads to number 4 and 5)
4) save up your money for it, do NOT cut out things you NEED to pay for (i.e. food, medicine, transportation to work, electricity, etc.)
5) wait until you are at least 18 – or whatever age you legally can get one in your country/province
6) if possible, get a temporary tattoo or airbrush tattoo done of it or something similar to be sure you’ll like it
7) do NOT get one while under the influence of drugs or alcohol

I think that is all the tips I have. Good luck! :)

Stop cutting
Untitled

I did this on and off for about 3 or 4 years. I didn’t care when people saw the cuts either. It really scared a lot of people I loved. Once I saw how much it hurt my friends when I cut, I stopped. I haven’t done it in a few years and am really happy I haven’t. :)

lose the weight i need to lose and keep it off
Untitled

I have a kidney disease (FSGS) and high blood pressure. I really need to lose weight in order to get some of that under control. If anyone has any tips, let me know. Also, I’m living in a college dorm and so eating healthy is very difficult.
