Seven years of friendship, 3 years of dating, and an engagement to who I thought was my soulmate. We broke up a little over a year ago and I’ve spent the past 365 days eating my feelings(hello weight loss goal), sleeping a lot, and avoiding the real world.
The turning point became possible thanks to a network of caring friends(they were my strength when I couldn’t muster up my own), the book “He’s just not that into you”(seriously folks!), time, and a phone call where he spoke to me so badly that a little light bulb went off.
I don’t NEED him!!!
Here there was a time when I couldn’t imagine spending my life without him. A time when I couldn’t imagine having children with anyone else. A time when I couldn’t imagine getting very old and wrinkled with anyone but him.
Now I’m saying “phew! crisis averted!”
Who would want to spend a lifetime with someone who didn’t think that YOU are all that?? certainly not me.
Good luck to everyone with this goal. Take it a day at a time(and if that seems too much, 15 minutes at a time). Surround yourself with positive people who encourage and support you, and whatever you do… don’t lay in bed and eat your feelings. One morning you’ll wake up over him, but your favorite jeans won’t fit. I’d much rather have my favorite jeans.
thankless job. overworked. underpaid. all the while being apart of a failing system that badly needs to be reformed. best of luck to those who continue in this field and can handle the demands. you are saints!
