i’m planning to go on a trip to quebec with a friend this summer, and i experienced my first extended highway drive yesterday- i drove most of the way home to southwestern connecticut from a track meet in boston, so it was a little over 2 hours on the highway. i also went through a toll booth for the first time, which was kind of fun.

i got my first postcard yesterday from Australia! it was pretty exciting. i’ve written postcards to new zealand, israel, and spain so far. a cool thing about postcrossing (besides getting mail from all over the world and learning about other places) is that it can give you a new perspective on where you live. i live in connecticut in the usa and i’ve always thought it was a pretty boring place to be, but after writing some postcards about it i’ve noticed that the place you live begins to seem a lot more interesting and exciting when you describe it to someone who lives really far away. i also love getting comments from the people to whom i send postcards. to one person i sent a postcard showing just a typical road- a skinny winding road that needed to be paved, and there was someone biking down it and some trees and a stonewall on the side of it, but the girl i sent it to lived in a desert and was fasinated by it, and was like woah! do you really have roads like that where you live?! i hadn’t realized that this road that looked so plain to me would look so foreign to some people!
i’ve missed only one more day; i had a race to run and the iron tablets mess up my stomach sometimes so i took a day off from them. i can now swallow pills like everyone else :)
